Prepare to Launch

Liam has started swimming lessons again. Since he's under 3 he's only supposed to do lessons with a parent in the pool. We had originally signed him up for the early lessons on Saturday morning because the later lessons were full. We were told that we could be put on the waiting list for the later lessons. Sarah got a call about a week ago saying that we were in the later lessons. When we arrived in the morning I located the correct instructor and she said that Liam should go into the pool on his own. No problem I said. I put him down and he walked right in, as he always does. I followed him in and as the lesson started I realized that I was the only parent (for that class) in the pool. I guess Liam has been promoted. Oh well. I'm sure it will help him learn faster. Liam did very well and only required my assistance a couple of times.

The most exciting part of the lesson was when the instructor was lifting all of the kids from the pool onto the deck so that they could go down the slide. Everyone except for Liam lined up at the slide and started going down. Liam stood near the edge of the pool. When the instructor's supervisor approached him and tried to get him to line up he took the only exit there was... He stepped right into the pool. The supervisor was able to pluck him out quickly and Liam was alright. A minute or two passed and a huge pouting lip appeared on his face. Shortly thereafter he burst into tears. I went over and was finally able to settle him down. I'm not sure if he started crying because he realized he was frightened or because he did something he wasn't supposed to do. Luckily this was at the end of the lesson.

We talked about swimming a lot this weekend. He's keen to go again and he's even agreeable to go into the pool by himself...at least he is now. My guess is that this might change by Saturday.
