I've been off for less than a week but I can't believe how much fun I've had with the family. We left home after school on my last day and headed for the nation's capital, where we spent 5 fun filled days. We had so much fun. We visited the Museum of Nature, the Museum of Civilization and the Children's Museum. We also spent some time outside. We saw the One Block Challenge, where competitors made ice sculptures in two hours. We skated on the canal, saw some sculptures, slid down the ice slides, had fun with the maple syrup guys and did some
cross country skiing.
During our time together I realized just how valuable this time is. When I first setup the leave I was aware of the financial implications. I knew that we would be bringing in less money but that we would still be able to make ends meet. What I didn't factor into my calculations was the value of my time off. There is no amount of money that could have bought this time back had I decided not to take the leave. This oversight on my part was very obvious as we toured the museums during the week. The time I've been able to spend with my family so far has made me realize that this time and these experiences are far more valuable than the money I gave up. I would highly recommend making that trade off to anyone.
