Reading

As a parent of young children I have become intimately aware of the importance reading to and with young children. Reading has been a part of our daily routine since Liam was too young to understand what was going on. No matter what happens we always find time for stories. I think that this type of routine has really helped both Liam and Emily gain an appreciation for reading. They are at the point now where they will often ask to read stories throughout the day. It's no longer just a part of the bedtime routine.

Over the course of the last month or so Liam has been coming home with some 'readers'. He likes hearing the stories. He's not super keen on the reading yet, but he does a little. I feel as though this little exposure will go a long way. It is something that we do routinely and as time goes on I feel like he will take on more of a role, or as they say in the education world we're following the gradual release of responsibility model. He's happy to do some reading and we're happy that he's interested.

To Liam: Happy graphing!

To Liam's Dad: I think you would make a great primary teacher! You've got it all figured out with the gradual release and frequent exposure things! Just don't inundate the poor little guy with success criteria, anchor charts and descriptive feedback! You're a great dad, and Liam's a very lucky boy! Isn't parenting fun?!
