I Love it when...

...the weather forecast is wrong in favour of sun. Everywhere we went on Friday people we talking about how crummy the weekend was supposed to be. Given the forecast we planned to go to Science North in Sudbury on Saturday. The kids had a great time. Emily absolutely loved walking through the cavern at the entrance to the museum. She hooted, hollered and screamed as she did some assisted walking through the cavern. Liam loved seeing the live animals. He was fond of the beaver and porcupine, but was worried that the skunk was going to spray us.

If I had to pick Liam's favourite exhibit I'd have to say it was a video showing eye surgery. Who would have guessed. He was completely mesmerized as he stood watching the video. Sarah started watching with him but had to walk away. I went over and watched for a bit and got bored and tried to talk him away. He just stayed there. I walked around the corner thinking he'd follow me but he just stayed. Weird.

The second most appealing exhibit for Liam is something we could easily create just about anywhere. They had two lanes of a sprinting track (about 10 metres long) set up. You start in the blocks, one person presses a button and a voice says "Runner take your mark...Get Set..." and then you hear the starting gun. You run the length of the track into a mat at the end. Both runners are timed. When we got there an older boy was doing it himself but he helped Liam get set and they had a race. Upon returning from the race Liam said "That was awesome!". I couldn't believe how excited he was. I see an Olympic future for him...provided the 10 m dash becomes an event.

Today was a picture perfect day. The weather was perfect; sunny and hot but not too hot. We spent the entire day playing on the beach and in the water. We didn't go anywhere, have any plans. We simply enjoyed spending the day together. It was the first of many perfect summer days to come.
