A Complete Lack of Plans

I must admit that I wasn't expecting to have a great Family Day Weekend. The entire family had been sick leading up to the weekend so for the first time in the history of Family Days we decided it would be best to stay home or at least close to it.

The plan for Saturday was to go swimming and then head to Presqu'ile to check out the ice volcanoes. Unfortunately, both Clara and Emily were under the weather so Liam and I went swimming. We came back and (finally) fixed our snowblower. If you were expecting more snow this winter, I think by fixing the snowblower Liam and I may have jinxed that. Sorry! By late afternoon Emily was feeling better so we headed for Batawa where the kids had a blast skiing together.

Sunday morning Liam made a list of things he wanted to do. So we got right to work. We tested out the snowblower by blowing off the rink in the front yard. It worked great and Liam was elated to be able to help blow off the rink. Once the rink was cleared we spent a couple of hours skating and playing hockey. It was like we had our own Olympics happening right at home (moving snow, skating and hockey).

We came in and warmed up for a bit. By this point it was late in the afternoon and even though the kids said they were keen to ski, I figured they would be too tired. I was wrong. We packed up our things and headed back to Batawa.

By Monday, even Clara was feeling better. I took Liam and Emily to the Y for a swim in the morning while Clara was napping. After lunch we headed to Presqu'ile. The kids snowshoed a bit but the highlight of the trip was checking out (both the outside and the inside) of the ice volcanoes.

Liam and Emily are practicing their "slope style snowshoeing", which is sure to be part of the 2026 Olympics.
