The First Day of School

It was an exciting week with Liam starting school. We Liam's first experience with school to be a positive one. We brought him in at the end of August so that we could get things with his allergies sorted out. While we were in talking to the secretary, his teacher happened to be there. She took some time out of her day to show Liam the classroom and talk about some of the things they would doing during the year. I think it was good for Liam to get a sneak peak at the classroom. Later that week Sarah took the kids to play at the playground at the school in an attempt to get him to feel comfortable at school.

On the first morning Liam didn't seem very excited to be at the school. Sarah said that as he was lining up to go into the school it looked like he was about to say “Mom, take me home.” but before he had the chance they herded the kids into the school.
Liam Before Starting the First Day
Sarah said that he didn't say much about the day when she picked him up. When I got home the first thing he said before saying "Hi" was “Dad, I like school. I want to go back.” That was a big relief. He seems to be enjoying school. So far he has had a lot to say about what happened during the day. I really enjoy listening to him tell stories.
Since Emily is at the stage where she wants to do everything that Liam does, I think she's would really like to be a part of going to school, especially given how much we talk about it. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to going to nursery school in October.
